Your unmetered bill
If you don't have a water meter, your bill is based on unmetered charges and your property's rateable value. We send you a bill once a year for the year ahead.
What do I pay for?
You'll see the following services on your bill:
- Water charges: covers the cost of treating and supplying you with clean, clear, great tasting tap water.
- Sewerage charges: covers the cost of removing, treating and disposing of waste from your home safely. Your sewerage charges are provided by Thames Water or Anglian Water, and these charges are included on your bill.
- Fixed charges: you pay a fixed charge and a charge based on the rateable value of your property.
What is rateable value?
Rateable value is used to work out how much to charge properties that do not have water meters. They were decided by the Valuation Office and can be different for every property. Rateable values were then frozen in 1990, when council tax was introduced, and they have stayed the same since.
If you would prefer to be charged for the water you actually use, you can apply to have a meter fitted for free. Try our water usage calculator to see if you'd save money on a meter.
